Academic Seminar – 5th Dec // Prof Tom Simpson – ‘Trust, AI, and the image of God’

Academic seminars focus on early-stage research on questions at the intersection of Christian faith and scholarly enquiry. They are intended to be exploratory, generative for both presenter and participants, and accessible across disciplines.
Seminars run from 2-3pm, On most Fridays during the weeks of the University of Oxford’s full term
You are warmly invited to join us beforehand for community worship at 12.30pm and lunch in the Manor house (1-2pm). 

About the speaker:

Tom Simpson is the Alfred Landecker Professor of Values and Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, and a Professorial Fellow at Wolfson College. At the Blavatnik School he is also the Co-Chair of Executive Programmes and directs the Military Leadership and Judgment Programme.

His research focuses on a variety of issues in moral and political philosophy—especially on trust; issues around technology and security, such as the ethics of autonomous weapons, cyber-attacks, and the use of unconventional force; and on the nature of freedom. On trust, he has co-edited a collection of essays, The Philosophy of Trust (Oxford University Press, 2017), and published a monograph, Trust: A Philosophical Study (Oxford University Press, 2023).

Registration is not required to attend the seminar, but is needed if you want to book in for the free lunch.
