Due to limited space, all members need to reserve a study space to visit the library. Bookings are open to members and residents only, so please make sure your membership has been accepted before reserving a desk.
Please note that if you arrive at the library without a booking we may not be able to grant access, as we cannot guarantee an available space. To avoid disappointment, please book your desk before you arrive.
If you are ready to make an appointment, please click below. Otherwise, please keep reading for additional information.
There are ten desks in the Main Reading Room which can be used for individual study, including two which are height-adjustable. The Research Carrels on the top floor are reserved for Resident Scholars.
There are two sessions in the Main Reading Room, morning (9:30am-1:00pm) and afternoon (1:00pm-5:00pm). You are welcome to book both if you would like to stay for the full day.
There is a shared table with eight seats in the South Seminar Room, this space can be booked for conversations, group study, or private phone-calls or meetings (including online meetings).
To ensure fairness, bookings are limited to 2 hours per day (or 2.5 hours if including the first session which starts at 9:30am). Hours do not need to be consecutive. If you need the space for longer than this, please get in contact with library staff and we can discuss extending your booking.
Further Information
Clicking on the relevant ‘book’ button above will take you to our booking page, from here you can select the dates and times you would like to visit the Library.
The first date viewable will be the current date. You can change this date either by clicking on ‘Go To Date’ (to bring up a calendar), or by navigating a day at a time using the arrows.
For desk booking, you can click on the name of a study space to see an image and read more about it. As we only have one bookable room, clicking on room booking will take you straight to the booking page for the South Seminar Room.
Clicking on the green bars will turn them orange; these are your selected times. You can see a full list of selected times by scrolling to the bottom of the page. If you have accidentally selected a time you do not wish to book, you can remove it from your booking by scrolling to the bottom and clicking on the bin icon next to the date. If the bar is red, this means that desk has already been booked by another library user.
Once you have selected your desired times, click on ‘submit’ at the bottom of the page. This will take you to the booking form.
There are two appointment slots per day in the Main Reading Room; morning (from 9:30am-1pm) and afternoon (from 1pm-5pm). You are welcome to book for the full day, but can only book one morning and one afternoon slot per day. The South Seminar Room has hourly slots, you can book up to two hours per day (or two and half if including the slot starting at 9:30am). These hours do not have to be consecutive. For both categories, you can book for multiple days in one request.
There is currently no limit to the number of days you can book. However, if you make repeated no-shows to pre-booked appointments, we may limit the number of bookings you can make in the future. If you need to book for multiple people, or you need more space, please contact the library so that we can discuss how best to accommodate you.
Bookings are available up to 3 months in advance. If you need to book further ahead, you are welcome to get in touch and we can look into this for you.
You can book at any point in time, up to the end of an appointment. However, please note that if you wish to join us for the Community Worship and Meal on Fridays, we need to know by the Wednesday of that week, to ensure enough food is available.
There is level access to the Library; the front door is power assisted. There is lift access to all floors, except the Research Carrels in the attic. If you need assistance accessing any books stored on this level, please speak to staff.
An accessible toilet can be found on the first floor, between the Main Reading Room and South Seminar Room. There is an additional toilet on the second floor.
Some books are stored on shelving at height. Library staff are happy to fetch these books for you if you require assistance.

There are two height adjustable desks (Study Spaces 9 & 10), we would ask that the use of these is prioritised for those who would benefit from this functionality.
If you feel they would be beneficial for you, you are very welcome to book these desks, but we ask that you be considerate of others.
